Kunstverein

The Kunstverein Bremerhaven von 1886 e. V. is one of the oldest cultural organisations in Bremerhaven and the Lower Weser region. In Bremerhaven, which was only founded in 1827, its foundation was part of the cultural emancipation of the young municipality from Bremen and at the same time a self-confident sign of its claim to the function of a regional centre within the three-city conglomerate at the mouth of the Weser. In this tradition, the association has now been organising exhibitions and events in the field of fine arts for 125 years.

It has had its own exhibition centre in the Kunsthalle since 1964. Here, the association offers young artists the freedom to carry out artistic experiments beyond commercial interests and established art historical positions, usually three times a year. The Kunstverein has organised more than 300 exhibitions in this form in the Kunsthalle to date. It acts as a mediator between artistic training, studio work, the commercially orientated gallery and a museum.

Another focus of the association’s activities is educational work through the organisation of lectures, guided tours, talks with artists and school projects.
