Juliette Blightman
I'll be your mirror
20.09.2025, 7 pm

I‘ll be your mirror is a performance lecture orchestrated by Juliette Blightman, juxtaposing different elements; philosophical musings, humour and gender politics through real-time film, sound and dance. Juxtaposition, is a method long embedded in Blightman’s making process, the integrity of the images it places and how it can work against the fragmentation of disparate elements and personal circumstances, allowing the audience to forge their own connections and inferences.

Juliette Blightman is a British artist living and working in London. She works across painting, photography, film, drawing, performance, sound, installation and text to produce a body of work that is rooted within the poetics of everyday life. Her artworks and exhibitions gently interrogate questions around the physical and mental spaces that social structures have built for the gendered subject. By refusing prescribed formulas and using several different mediums and strategies, she reflects on contemporary existence and communication, questioning how artworks can re-evaluate art history and the canonical systems at play today.

Blightman’s work has been exhibited in solo and duo exhibitions at the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, the Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art, Middelburg, the Kunsthalle Bern, Bern, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Bregenz and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. Performances and video works at LaFayette Anticipations, Paris; Haus am Waldsee, Berlin; Museion Bolzano, Bolzano; Fridericianum, Kassel; South London Gallery, Hayward Gallery and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Her exhibitions and artworks have been written about it ArtForum, Frieze and Texte zur Kunst. She is Professor of Expanded Painting at Kunstakademie Münster.

The performance will be accompanied by the dancers Antonio Papazis and Ming-Hung Weng.

The entrance is free.
