Die Sammlung Barner
16. – 21.04.2019
Works of art from foundations, gifts, bequests or inheritances traditionally form an important part of almost every art collection. The Kunstverein Bremerhaven has also acquired many works in this way over the course of its history. The association recently received another inheritance. Long-standing member Mr. Dieter Barner has left his collection of paintings and graphics by Worpswede artists to the art association. Mr. Barner’s art collection comprises around 40 works. The focus is on ship portraits, primarily ships on which he himself sailed. Mr. Barner’s artistic interest also included the art of the first generation of Worpswede artists and their environment. He acquired paintings and etchings by Sophie Wenke, Otto Modersohn, Hans am Ende and others. Under the title “The Barner Collection” we will present the new acquisitions to you in a small exhibition from Tuesday, April 16th from 3 p.m. to Easter Sunday, April 21st in the Kunsthalle.
