The exhibition kl asse ZwIschenlager continues the Kunsthalle’s series of exhibitions featuring young artists who are studying in master classes at art academies. Since 2002, students of Stefan Balkenhol, Karin Kneffel, Bernhard Prinz, Gabriele Rothemund, and Gregor Schneider have been exhibiting their work at the Kunsthalle Bremerhaven. What all of these teachers have in common is that they themselves, as young artists, were able to hold significant solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, which the members of the art association will still remember.
Since 2002, Leni Hoffmann has held a full professorship in painting and graphic arts at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. Her unique artistic approach, which oscillates between relinquished and claimed authorship, asserts real space as a walk-in pictorial space, and repeatedly understands her interventions in industrial production processes as painterly settings, creates an exciting field of friction for her students.
In Bremerhaven, students and graduates of the class are exhibiting format-related studio works (panel painting, sculpture), video works, and site-specific works. The in-situ works were created for the exhibition in the Kunsthalle and the adjacent urban space. With an exhibition architecture designed specifically for the Kunsthalle, Hoffmann structures the sophisticated building and creates additional space for her students to move around. The “Asse” as an area for action.
