Klasse Gregor Schneider
24.01. – 07.03.2010

A whole series of artists who exhibited at the Kunsthalle Bremerhaven at a young age later established themselves in the art world. Some were offered professorships. In turn, they now teach young artists who aspire to exhibit in venues such as an art association. In close contact with the professors, the Kunstverein began a few years ago to offer the up-and-coming generation of artists the opportunity to exhibit in class exhibitions. Since then, students from the class of Karin Kneffel and students of Stephan Balkenhol as well as pupils of Bernhard Prinz have exhibited in the Kunsthalle in this series. With “Klasse Gregor Schneider Bremerhaven”, this exhibition series will be continued at the beginning of 2010.

Gregor Schneider, born in 1969 in Rheydt, North Rhine-Westphalia, took up his post as a professor specializing in sculpture at the Berlin University of the Arts in April 2009.
Gregor Schneider’s teaching goal is to make sculpture accessible to students as walk-in three-dimensional sculpture. The focus will be on cross-border space - a property will become mobile. In this context, Gregor Schneider is planning a “flying classroom” based on the classic children’s book by Erich Kästner. While in the book the flying classroom is only part of a school performance, Gregor Schneider wants to make the classroom mobile and have it “land” at various locations around the world.

In January, the Kunsthalle Bremerhaven will become a field of experimentation and research space for the students. For the first time, they will have to deal with the practice of exhibiting in this dimension.
