Rajaveni Saminadane
Kolams - to the planet
09.11.2008 – 04.01.2009
For the first time, KOLAMS from South India, embroidered on silk or cotton, will be on display in the Kunsthalle.
The artist Rajaveni Saminadane will come directly to Bremerhaven from Auroville/Tamil Nadu, a place of peace “in the making”, to bring form and knowledge, combined with deep meanings, to the students of our schools. For thousands of years, India has been a country that radiates the expression of a great love of beauty. Deep cosmic wisdom has not been lost through colonization. The women in India paint kolams in front of the threshold of their house in the early morning light before sunrise. The peaceful air of the night is still quiet. This is a time of calm energy, a time of reflection, a time to be with the divine energy. The most common way of constructing a kolam involves a series of scattered dots that are then connected to create the desired image.
Through art we learn to see and feel what is hidden behind the visible. Behind the “ordinary” show we find the invisible, the deeper concerns of the universe. What is particularly remarkable is the deep concentration that comes with creating kolams. For the opening of the exhibition, Rajaveni Saminadane will also create sweater kolams on the floor and in the entrance area of the art gallery.
The Kunstverein Bremerhaven of 1886, the Kaufmännische Lehranstalten and the Werkstattschule Tonnendachhalle are also participating in the first Bremerhaven school culture week with this exhibition through a grant from the swb education initiative.
