Georg Baselitz und Benjamin Katz
Die Richtung stimmt
07.10.2007 – 06.01.2008
In its first museum exhibition, from October 7, 2007 to January 6, 2008, the Kunstverein presented a sculpture and 22 paintings by the sculptor and painter Georg Baselitz, as well as around 70 black-and-white photographs by the former gallery owner and photographer Benjamin Katz.
The paintings by Georg Baselitz were pictures from his current Remix series as well as individual works that were created between 2004 and 2007. The large-format paintings were combined with black-and-white photographs by Benjamin Katz. Benjamin Katz, born in Antwerp in 1939, initially worked as a gallery owner before turning to his passion, photography, in the 1970s. As a photographer, he has documented the German art scene for decades and documented many artists from Palermo to Sigmar Polke to Gerhard Richter in their everyday artistic lives with his sensitive style. He also has a decades-long friendship with Georg Baselitz, as was evident in his sensitive photographs.
