On the occasion of our 125th anniversary, the UWE HEINRICH SUHR Foundation is donating a sculpture by Stephan Balkenhol to the Kunstverein Bremerhaven for the outside facade of the Kunstmuseum. The work complements a sculpture by the same artist on the facade of the Kunsthalle (Man with a green shirt and white trousers, 1987), which was installed in the public space of the city of Münster (Salzstrasse / Loergasse) until June 1989 as part of the “Sculpture Projects Münster”. The Kunstverein Bremerhaven was then able to purchase it for its own collection.
The generous donation fulfills the Kunstverein’s long-held wish to create a closer visual relationship between the Kunsthalle and the Kunstmuseum, which has existed since 2008. A female figure has now been designed for the Kunstmuseum. To accompany the handover of the donation, a room will be set up in the Kunstmuseum with sculptures and drawings by Stephan Balkenhol from its own collection. We cordially invite you to the ceremonial handover, at which Stephan Balkenhol will also be present.
